March 10, 2025 – Tata Electronics (TE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Taiwan-based Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) and Himax Technologies, marking a significant step in India's efforts to advance display technology and ultra-low-power AI sensor solutions.
Strengthening India's Semiconductor Industry
Tata Electronics has already been collaborating with PSMC on wafer fabrication technology licensing, setting the foundation for India's growing semiconductor sector. This new partnership aims to deliver end-to-end solutions, covering chip design, manufacturing, packaging, and electronic manufacturing services (EMS), catering to both domestic and international markets.
A Comprehensive Display and AI Sensor Ecosystem
According to Randhir Thakur, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Electronics, this collaboration will enable the companies to develop integrated imaging and display technologies along with ultra-low-power AI sensing solutions.
By combining Tata Electronics' EMS capabilities, Himax's expertise in IC design, and PSMC's semiconductor manufacturing technology, the partnership seeks to establish a robust semiconductor ecosystem in India. The primary objective is to meet the rising global demand for displays and intelligent sensor semiconductor solutions while reinforcing India's domestic semiconductor supply chain.
Impact on the Indian and Global Market
This strategic alliance underscores India's commitment to self-sufficiency in semiconductor manufacturing, aligning with the government’s "Make in India" initiative. The growing demand for AI-driven sensors, high-performance display ICs, and next-generation semiconductor solutions positions India as a key player in the global semiconductor landscape.
As India strengthens its semiconductor and electronics manufacturing sector, this partnership is expected to attract more foreign investment, enhance local technological capabilities, and accelerate the development of an independent semiconductor supply chain.
