Strommesstransformatoren sind dafür ausgelegt, den Stromfluss in einem isolierten Leiter oder einer Primärwicklung zu erfassen und zu messen und in einer Sekundärwicklung einen proportionalen Wechselstrom zu erzeugen. Der Frequenzbereich liegt bei 2 Hz bis 1 MHz, mit einem Nennstrombereich von 125 mA bis 4000 A. Die drei Typen sind invasiv, nicht-invasiv (Massivkern) und nicht-invasiv (Spaltkern).
