Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 to Debut in September with TSMC N3P Node and Major Performance Boost

Qualcomm is expected to unveil its next-generation flagship mobile chipset — the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 — during its Snapdragon Tech Summit, which has been rescheduled earlier this year for September 2025. Ahead of the official launch, key details about the chipset’s architecture and performance enhancements have surfaced, setting the stage for a major leap in mobile computing power.

Built on TSMC’s Advanced N3P 3nm Process

One of the most significant upgrades for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 is its manufacturing process. Qualcomm will reportedly use TSMC’s N3P node, the third generation of the company’s 3nm technology. This shift from the previous generation’s N4P or N4 nodes is expected to deliver superior power efficiency, transistor density, and thermal performance — all essential for next-gen mobile experiences.

CPU and GPU Overhaul with 5GHz Pegasus Core

Internally, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 will retain a 2+6 CPU cluster architecture, but with a crucial update: Qualcomm is set to introduce new Pegasus CPU cores, which could push big-core clock speeds up to 5.00GHz. On the graphics front, the chipset will feature the newly designed Adreno 840 GPU, representing a major leap in graphical performance over its predecessor.

In synthetic benchmark testing (such as AnTuTu), early leaks suggest that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 scores up to 40.7% higher than the current Snapdragon 8 Elite — a testament to improvements in both processing and graphical capabilities.

Next-Level AI with 100 TOPS NPU

AI performance is also taking center stage with this release. The chipset’s new NPU (Neural Processing Unit) is expected to deliver up to 100 TOPS (trillions of operations per second), more than double the AI compute capability of the Snapdragon X Elite's 45 TOPS. This boost is partly attributed to an increase in on-chip L2 cache to 32MB, with 16MB dedicated to the NPU alone, significantly enhancing AI data throughput and processing efficiency.

Market Outlook

As Qualcomm pushes the limits of mobile SoC performance, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 is shaping up to be a formidable upgrade. With a blend of TSMC’s leading-edge 3nm process, next-gen Pegasus cores, Adreno 840 GPU, and an AI engine with 100 TOPS, the chip is poised to lead the premium Android ecosystem in 2026.

More official details are expected to emerge as the September launch date approaches.
