Taiwan-based semiconductor manufacturer Mosel Vitelic Inc. is set to significantly expand its production capabilities with the launch of a new silicon carbide (SiC) wafer processing line. Industry reports indicate that the company is on track to complete construction of this advanced manufacturing line by the end of June 2025, with pilot production scheduled to begin in the second half of the year.

The new line will boost Mosel Vitelic’s monthly SiC wafer capacity by 3,000 units, with plans for further capacity expansion based on market demand. This move marks a major milestone in the company’s strategic transformation toward next-generation power semiconductor manufacturing.

SiC Platform Development Began in 2023

Mosel Vitelic initiated its SiC platform development in June 2023, facing industry-wide challenges including equipment lead times of up to two years. Despite these hurdles, the company leveraged its deep expertise in power semiconductors and power management ICs to successfully establish foundry-level capabilities for producing SiC power transistors.

Looking ahead, Mosel Vitelic aims to make its 6-inch wafer fab a stronghold for SiC manufacturing. The company plans to incorporate high-value, high-margin process technologies, with a focus on automotive and industrial applications—two sectors driving global SiC demand. Through this strategy, Mosel Vitelic seeks to build a stable customer base and accelerate long-term revenue growth.

Company Background and Financial Performance

Founded in 1987, Mosel Vitelic has evolved from a DRAM manufacturer into a specialized wafer foundry focusing on power semiconductor devices. The company’s production facility in Hsinchu, Taiwan, operates a 6-inch wafer fab with a monthly capacity of approximately 51,000 wafers, and a 2021 annual output totaling 62.4 million wafers, or 14,165 million square inches of silicon.

The company underwent a significant financial turnaround in 2024, achieving net profits of NT$90 million (approx. USD $2.9 million), reversing earlier losses. According to its latest earnings report, Mosel Vitelic reported NT$551 million in revenue for Q1 2025, a 44.87% year-on-year increase, continuing its growth trajectory into the new fiscal year.

As global demand for energy-efficient power semiconductors continues to rise, Mosel Vitelic’s strategic expansion into SiC manufacturing positions it well to capture emerging opportunities in electric vehicles, industrial automation, and renewable energy infrastructure.
