NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang announced that the company is currently evaluating Samsung Electronics' 8-layer and 12-layer HBM3E memory chips, which are designed to enhance artificial intelligence processing capabilities.
Previously, Samsung hinted at providing advanced high-bandwidth memory (HBM) to AI giant NVIDIA. Kim Jae-june, Vice President of Samsung's memory business, stated during a conference call following the release of their Q3 financial report: "We are currently mass-producing 8-layer and 12-layer HBM3E products."
Kim further added that Samsung has made "meaningful progress" in meeting quality testing requirements for a "major customer," which is speculated to be NVIDIA.
Samsung has also indicated that it is expanding the supply of its 8-layer and 12-layer HBM3E chips to multiple customers. Additionally, the company is making efforts to refine its HBM3E products to align with the next-generation GPU plans of a large customer. Furthermore, Samsung is developing its 6th generation HBM4 products, with plans for mass production starting in the latter half of next year.
