According to the latest report from the Financial Times, Elon Musk's AI startup xAI is set to expand its Colossus supercomputer by a factor of ten. This ambitious expansion will integrate over 1 million GPUs (Graphics Processing Units), allowing the system to surpass the computational power of competitors such as Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic.

This ambitious expansion will integrate over 1 million GPUs (Graphics Processing Units), allowing the system to surpass the computational power of competitors such as Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic.

Colossus is currently regarded as one of the largest supercomputers in the world, housing more than 100,000 Nvidia GPUs. These chips are primarily used to train Musk’s chatbot Grok, which is a key project for xAI.

Musk’s plan to scale up Colossus will require a multi-billion-dollar investment, potentially reaching several hundred billion dollars. This substantial expenditure also includes the costs of building, powering, and cooling the large-scale server infrastructure needed to support such a massive system. To fund this expansion, xAI has already raised approximately $11 billion from investors this year.

The colossal increase in computing power is expected to further strengthen xAI's competitive edge in the AI space, enabling it to process vast amounts of data and improve its machine learning models, ultimately positioning it as a formidable rival to established AI players in the market.
