December 18, 2024 – Longsys Advanced's Wuhan Base marked a significant milestone as it welcomed the first batch of equipment into its facilities, signaling the start of its process validation phase. This major step brings the company closer to its goal of achieving full-scale production of silicon carbide (SiC) wafers by May 2025. The project is part of Longsys's strategy to strengthen its leadership in third-generation semiconductor manufacturing.

Wuhan Base: Key Milestones and Future Goals

The Wuhan Base project has progressed rapidly since its inception, with the newly arrived equipment, including tools for thin film deposition, ion implantation, photolithography, and etching, ahead of the original timeline. This marks the beginning of a critical phase where manufacturing processes will be tested and fine-tuned.

Investment and Capacity Highlights:

Total Investment: Over 200 billion yuan, with the first phase involving 8 billion yuan.

Planned Capacity: The first phase aims to produce 360,000 pieces of 6-inch SiC wafers annually.

The base represents a state-of-the-art facility designed to cater to the growing demand for high-performance SiC components in electric vehicles (EVs), renewable energy systems, and industrial applications.

Silicon Carbide: A High-Demand Market

Silicon carbide is rapidly becoming a cornerstone in industries requiring high power density and efficiency. Its exceptional properties, such as wide bandgap, high thermal conductivity, and superior electron mobility, make it ideal for applications in EV powertrains, solar inverters, and high-frequency communication systems.

According to market projections, the global SiC power device market is expected to grow at an accelerated pace, with its size estimated to reach $9.17 billion by 2028. Longsys's investment in Wuhan positions it as a competitive player in this burgeoning market, enhancing its capabilities to meet global demand.

The Strategic Role of the Wuhan Base

Longsys Advanced's Wuhan Base is set to play a crucial role in expanding China's third-generation semiconductor capabilities. As part of the national agenda to strengthen domestic production and reduce reliance on imports, this project highlights Longsys's commitment to innovation and industrial leadership.

The facility will produce SiC wafers that support advanced technologies across multiple sectors, including automotive, power generation, and high-speed communications. By achieving high manufacturing standards and optimizing production efficiency, the Wuhan Base will contribute significantly to Longsys's global competitiveness.

Looking Ahead

With the upcoming installation and testing phases, the Wuhan Base is on track to deliver its first production batch in 2025. As SiC adoption accelerates globally, Longsys Advanced is well-positioned to capitalize on this growth, supporting industries with cutting-edge materials and solutions.
