SpaceX Secures $17.3 Million Grant from Texas to Expand Semiconductor and Advanced Packaging Facility

SpaceX has received a $17.3 million grant from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund to support the expansion of its semiconductor research and advanced packaging facility in Bastrop, Texas. The investment is expected to create over 400 new jobs and attract more than $280 million in capital investment to the region.

The project will significantly enhance Texas' position as a leader in advanced manufacturing technologies. Over the next three years, SpaceX plans to add 1 million square feet of new manufacturing space at the Bastrop site. The facility will focus on producing silicon wafers and components for the Starlink network, including advanced packaged chips, printed circuit boards (PCBs), and semiconductor failure analysis laboratories. Once completed, the facility will become the largest PCB and panel-level packaging (PLP) production base in North America.

The expansion will strengthen SpaceX's ability to manufacture key components for its Starlink system, enhancing the delivery of high-speed, low-latency internet service worldwide. The investment is also expected to drive regional economic growth by creating high-quality jobs and stimulating further technological development.

Local leaders have expressed strong support for the project, emphasizing its role in reinforcing Texas' global leadership in semiconductor innovation and high-tech manufacturing. The initiative aims to secure critical supply chains and boost the state's long-term economic resilience.

This expansion underscores Texas' strategic efforts to build a robust semiconductor ecosystem, leveraging partnerships with industry leaders like SpaceX to advance innovation, enhance supply chain security, and maintain competitiveness in the global technology landscape.
