April 17, 2025 — Micron Technology, a global leader in memory and storage solutions, has announced a strategic reorganization of its business units. The restructuring is designed to better align with the explosive growth in artificial intelligence (AI) and the evolving needs of data-driven applications from cloud infrastructure to edge devices.

According to TrendForce, Micron ranked third globally in the DRAM market with a 22.4% market share and fourth in NAND Flash with 13.8% share as of Q4 2024. The rising demand for high-performance storage, driven by AI innovations, is pushing major memory manufacturers to adapt and expand their capabilities.

Four Business Units for Market-Specific Focus

Micron’s new business structure will include four dedicated units:

Cloud Memory Business Unit (CMBU) – Led by Raj Narasimhan, formerly SVP and GM of the Compute and Networking Business Unit (CNBU). This unit will focus on delivering memory solutions to hyperscale cloud providers, including high-bandwidth memory (HBM) products.

Core Data Center Business Unit (CDBU) – Headed by Jeremy Werner, former SVP and GM of the Storage Business Unit (SBU). This division will serve OEM data center customers, offering both memory and storage solutions tailored to high-performance enterprise needs.

Mobile and Client Business Unit (MCBU) – Led by Mark Montierth, previously VP and GM of the Mobile Business Unit (MBU). MCBU will concentrate on delivering memory and storage products for mobile devices and client platforms, supporting the growing demand for AI integration in personal electronics.

Automotive and Embedded Business Unit (AEBU) – Managed by Kris Baxte, former VP and GM of the Embedded Business Unit (EBU). This unit will provide customized memory and storage technologies for the automotive, industrial, and consumer sectors, where real-time processing and reliability are critical.

Preparing for the Future of Intelligent Infrastructure

Micron stated that this restructuring will deepen its customer partnerships and sharpen its ability to innovate across various market segments. The transition to the new structure is already underway and is expected to be fully implemented by the start of Micron’s fiscal Q4 2025. From that point on, the company will report its financials based on this new organizational model.

As AI continues to reshape the global tech landscape, Micron’s strategic realignment positions the company to remain competitive in delivering next-generation memory and storage solutions for the world’s most demanding applications.
