On November 26, 2024, significant updates in silicon carbide (SiC) supply were announced by Chiplink Integrated Technology and ROHM Semiconductor, reflecting advancements in their respective collaborations with major automotive manufacturers.

Chiplink Integrated Technology revealed via its official channel that it is supplying silicon carbide modules for the Lelao L60, the first vehicle launched under NIO’s new brand, Lelao. The Lelao L60 is the only model in its segment built on a comprehensive 900V high-voltage platform. Its primary electric drive system integrates NIO’s self-developed 1200V SiC power module, enhanced by Chiplink’s advanced SiC module manufacturing technology. This integration significantly boosts the vehicle’s power system efficiency and stability while reducing energy consumption and extending the L60’s driving range. In January 2024, Chiplink officially signed a production and supply agreement with NIO for SiC module products. As part of this agreement, Chiplink serves as the production supplier for NIO’s first self-developed 1200V SiC modules, which are integral to NIO’s 900V high-voltage pure electric platform.

ROHM Semiconductor Collaborates with Valeo on SiC Power Modules

ROHM Semiconductor announced its partnership with automotive component manufacturer Valeo to jointly develop next-generation SiC power modules for traction inverters. This collaboration combines ROHM’s expertise in power electronics with Valeo’s strengths in mechatronics, thermal management, and software development.

As the first step of their collaboration, ROHM will supply Valeo with its SiC encapsulated module, the “TRCDRIVE pack,” for Valeo’s next-generation powertrain solutions. Valeo plans to deliver the first batch of products for this project by early 2026.

Valeo is expanding its portfolio to cover a wide range of efficient electric mobility solutions, including electric bicycles, cars, and trucks. Since 2022, Valeo and ROHM have collaborated on improving motor inverter performance and efficiency, initially focusing on technical exchanges.

Through this partnership, both companies aim to enhance power electronics by optimizing cooling systems, improving thermal management, and achieving cost efficiency. Additionally, the adoption of SiC encapsulation is expected to enhance system reliability, further supporting advancements in electric mobility.
